Advanced Technology Helps Snowplows on Pocatello Roads | Local News

With more snow expected, Pocatello has implemented new technology to help treat and plow local roadways.

With hundreds of miles of roadways in Pocatello, this slows down the process of getting all the roadways cleared of snow.

The advancement of technology and AI has allowed the Pocatello Street Operations to get roadways cleared of snow and treated efficiently.

Ground cast sensors and on-board sensors give valuable data such as ground temperatures and road conditions for those treating Pocatello roadways.

The technology used, help people operating the Snowplows know which roadways need to be cleared of snow and ice first.

Tom Kirkman, the Director of Public Services, speaks more on the technology used.

“These technologies include some ground test sensors, we call them, that are embedded into the ground. And they give us, you know, temperature down to 18 inches. It will tell us how much material is on the road being salt and it’ll give us a grip sensor, so it’ll tell us how slick it is.”
