Is Kansas baseball still in USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll?

LAWRENCE — Kansas baseball’s reentry into the top 25 of the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll proved to be short-lived, as the Jayhawks learned Monday they’ve again fallen out of the rankings.

KU (36-13, 15-9 in Big 12) was swept over the weekend at home in Big 12 Conference play by Cincinnati. A win earlier in the week at home against rival Missouri in non-conference play wasn’t enough to keep Kansas in the top 25. The Jayhawks, previously ranked No. 25, will now look ahead to their next week of competition with the hopes of regaining their footing.

Kansas’ next week sets the program up with a Tuesday road game and rematch against Missouri, before a Thursday-through-Saturday, three-game series in Big 12 play at home against BYU. All four games are winnable, but the Jayhawks will need to do what’s necessary to bounce back in order to make the most of them. The last time KU went on a losing streak, four games in April, it responded with nine-straight wins.

Coming out of the weekend, Kansas is tied for third in the Big 12 standings with Arizona and TCU. That trio sits behind Big 12-leader West Virginia and second-place Arizona State. The first four seeds in the Big 12 tournament later this month receive a bye to the quarterfinals.
