Navy Testing New Weather Tech for Safer Ship Navigation


SAN DIEGO – When weather conditions deteriorate, keeping ships on track for their mission in churning seas can challenge both ship bridge watch teams and weather forecasters alike. But the Navy this year is testing a new data-driven tool that officials say will help weather forecasters direct and reroute ships and other seagoing platforms when weather and ocean conditions disrupt planned routes, Capt. Erin-Michelle Ceschini, commander of U.S. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command’s Fleet Weather Center San Diego, said Thursday at the West 2025 conference co-hosted by the U.S. Naval Institute and AFCEA.
